ABOUT US


HISTORY

  • A non-profit group founded in January 1973
  • Members are active in venues such as conformation, obedience, field, agility, tracking, therapy and search and rescue
  • Earned American Kennel Club (AKC) approval for its first sanctioned breed match in September 1973
  • Host of the GRCA Eastern Regional Specialty and Obedience Trial in 1980, 1984, 1993 and 2004
  • Earned AKC license for Hunting Retriever Tests in 1988
  • Established a rescue program in 1994 -- GRRIP
  • Earned AKC license for agility trials in 2000
  • Host 9 meetings each year with programs including emergency and medical care, grooming, training, nutrition, therapy, judging and search and rescue
  • Host social events such as the annual Christmas party, Awards banquet and summertime picnic

PURPOSE

  • Enhance the natural abilities of Golden Retrievers through training
  • Urge acceptance of the breed standard as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the Golden Retriever shall be judged
  • Protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, and field, obedience, agility and tracking trials
  • Conduct licensed specialty shows, field, obedience and agility trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club
  • Encourage responsible breeding of Golden Retrievers
  • Educate the community and members about the breed
  • Provide support and information to help ensure a long and loving relationship between owners and their Goldens

GENERAL MEETINGS

  • General meetings are held each month except January, July and December
  • Meetings are held at the Sister’s of Holy Family of Nazareth, 301 Bellevue Road, Pittsburgh PA 15229  -- Also known as Community & Holy Family Manor

    . The meetings begin at 7:30 PM. This meeting facility does not accommodate dogs except as demonstration dogs.

 North from Pittsburgh:         

  1. Take exit 12 toward US-19 / Perrysville Ave.                             .3 miles
  2. Turn right                                                                                          .1 miles
  3. Turn LEFT  onto PERRY HWY / PERRYSVILLE AVE / US 19            .8 miles
  4. Turn LEFT  onto BELLEVUE RD.                                                      .5 miles
  5. Turn RIGHT to stay on BELLEVUE RD                                         .1 miles
  6. End at 301 Bellevue Rd
    • Entrance into complex is one way
    • Sign will direct you to building
    • Yellow brick building behind large red brick building is meeting place
    • Open parking lot or 2 deck parking garage

 South from Cranberry: 

  1. Take exit 12 toward US-19 / Perrysville Ave.                       .3 miles

  2. Turn left                                                              .1 miles

  3. Turn LEFT  onto PERRY HWY / PERRYSVILLE AVE / US 19      .8 miles

  4. Turn LEFT  onto BELLEVUE RD.                                       .5 miles

  5. Turn RIGHT to stay on BELLEVUE RD                               .1 miles

  6. End at 301 Bellevue Rd

    • Sign will direct you to building
